What is Male Infertility?
The causes of male infertility can be: Deficient Sperm Production Ductal Obstruction Ejaculatory Dysfunction Disorders of the Accessory Glands Coital Disorders Deficient Sperm Production Basically means that the men is not producing enough good quality sperm. Even though it only takes one sperm for conception, the number of sperm in semen is important. The average number in a healthy man is around 66 million/ml. In addition to the quantity, the issue of quality is also very important. If the sperm is deformed or too slow, conception will be very difficult. A semen analysis is usually the first test a man will undergo when looking for the cause of infertility in a couple. Ductal obstruction This can be a result of a congenital defect, scarring after an infection, cystic fibrosis, or even a vasectomy. In some of these cases, the obstruction can be removed and the cause of infertility solved. Ejaculatory Dysfunction Treatments for male infertility available here include medication to increase sperm production, sperm aspiration for men who are physically unable to ejaculate, microsurgical reconstruction to remove obstructions in the sperm ducts and surgical repair of varicocele (varicose veins in the testicle). For men who have undergone a vasectomy in the past, the procedure can successfully be reversed using a microsurgical technique. Disorders of the Accessory Glands These disorders can be caused by infection, inflammation or the production of anti-sperm antibodies. It is now believed that infections play a significant role in male infertility problems. There is a large number of bacteria, viruses, and other organisms that can infect the male genitourinary system and cause male infertility. Coital Disorders Male infertility due to coital disorders can be explained as defects in technique, premature withdrawal or erectile dysfunction. Urologist who are infertility specialist can help resolve most of this problems with different procedures. When male infertility is due to low sperm count or low quality of sperm, there are many natural and preventive solutions that can be easily implemented. The most common causes of sperm count reduction are caused by high scrotal temperature, environmental and stress factors. When male infertility is due to high scrotal temperature a simple change such a wearing boxers instead of briefs can reverse the situation. Increased stress, lack of sleep, overuse of alcohol, tobacco or illicit drugs (even some prescription drugs) can lower the count and quality of the sperm and cause male infertility. The elimination of these factors will usually result in an increase in the sperm count and a reversal of the male infertility.
